WHERE DO WE GO FROM HERE?

by Mary Landolfi

How easily the unity that should preside in a union can go astray. That’s the hard lesson members of Local 802 have learned in the past year. Somehow, though, we have to put this behind us and begin to work for our common future. I pledge that, if I am elected, I will work positively with the members of the new administration and do my best to provide constructive leadership. Here are a few of my ideas:

ISSUE PAPERS

During the 2006 Election, Concerned Musicians released a number of "Issue Papers" on matters of concern to members. We feel these issues are still relevant. Click on the title to read, and check for additional issue papers in the coming days.

DEBATE SHOWS THERE IS A REAL CHOICE

FAIR MINDED AND TRUSTWORTHY

By Lucy Goeres

I have known and worked with Mary Landolfi for most of my professional life, and can honestly say that she is one of the most intelligent, fair minded and trustworthy people I’ve ever known.

A FIRST HAND LOOK AT BOTH CANDIDATES

By Lee Soper

As a free-lance symphonic musician, I am in a unique position to form an opinion about the relative merits of David Lennon and Mary Landolfi. After all, both David and Mary were at one time or another in charge of the Concert Department at Local 802. In my opinion, there is only one possible choice for president of Local 802; that is Mary Landolfi.

LUCRATIVE RECORDING INITIATIVES ATTACKED FROM WITHIN

by Jay Schaffner

The ironically named Members Party is at it again. Here, from its latest newsletter, is the lie:

"As we have reported previously, Theatre Committee members have recently learned that Recording Department Supervisor Jay Schaffner has negotiated several Broadway buy-out agreements with various Broadway shows without consultation with, or ratification by, the musicians affected by them."

Here is the truth.

Our Broadway Theatre Committee in 1998 had Local 802 ask the national AFM – not me – to craft a set of non-negotiable terms under which Broadway shows could buy out the rights to use cast album tracks for promotional purposes. ... . (Click on title to go to full story.)

A Message from Former President Bill Moriarty

October 3, 2006

Dear Fellow Local 802 Member,

I am writing to you as a longtime member and a former president of Local 802, who is deeply concerned with the state of our union.

Letter to Metropolitan Opera and Philharmonic Orchestras

October, 2006

Dear Colleagues:

We feel these are facts of which you should be aware:

• Local 802 President David Lennon has admitted that over the last 4 years he charged more than $10,000 in personal expenses on the Local 802 American Express credit card without the knowledge of the Executive Board. The final balance was not paid back until early this year.
